How Many King Williams Have there Been?

Throughout history, there have been a number of rulers with the name William, including various English and British monarchs.

The following is a list of English and British kings and queens named William:

  1. The first Norman king of England was William I (1066–1087), also referred to as William the Conqueror.
  2. William the Conqueror’s second son and successor as king was William II (1087–1100), commonly known as William Rufus.
  3. Following the Glorious Revolution of 1688, William III (1689–1722) co-ruled with Queen Mary II. He was the only king or queen to reign alongside their spouse.
  4. George IV was followed as king by William IV (1830–1837).

It’s important to note that many English and British princes and heirs have chosen the name William, albeit not all of them have gone on to become monarchs. For instance, Prince William of Wales, who was born in 1982, is the second in line to the throne of the United Kingdom, but he has not yet taken the throne.
